Treetrunkwise is Rachael Sage Payne.

Born March 15, 1976 in Little Rock, Arkansas, Rachael made the move to Austin at two to start a life filled with music, art, creativity, and good Tex-Mex. So far life has taken her to a number of exciting places, but forever on a quest for the next new thing, Rachael has barely scratched the surface.

As a child Rachael was inspired by her dad's music making. His music room, filled with walls of vinyl albums and cassettes, was a haven Rachael loved wandering into. Rachael's artistic side was developed with help from her mom, who always encouraged drawing, painting, sculpting, and paper art.

In school she excelled in reading and creative writing, language, art, dance, music, and theater. At 15, she got her first guitar and started picking out favorite songs by ear. She performed at school shows every chance she got.

In her early twenties Rachael worked a nearly three year stint at the nationally famed guitar store Ray Hennig's Heart of Texas Music, where she bought her first guitar: a Martin 0001R, which became a great friend to her.

At 24 Rachael moved to Australia for a great adventure where she met the love of her life, a young backpacker from Sweden named Per.After returning home from a year in Australia, Rachael began writing music more seriously, using her new found inspiration to write colorful and poetic lyrics, and honing her unique rhythm guitar style.

Eventually, Rachael moved to Sweden to live with Per, and then to Seattle, WA where the happy couple was finally married. In 2008, She returned to her roots in Austin at last, with Per at her side.
